Martha Murphy, 75, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
The family will greet friends from 5–7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St., Abilene, Texas 79601. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in St. James United Methodist Church, 3100 Barrow St., Abilene, Texas 79605. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606.
Mrs. Murphy was born February 17, 1943 in Abilene, Texas to Eugene “E.D.” and Onah “Pete” Webb. Martha received her undergraduate education at McMurry University, and her Master’s Degree in Education from Texas State University. Like her mother, Martha was a career educator in Abilene. Martha taught at Reagan Elementary, and then proudly served as the Principal of Bonham Elementary for almost two decades. Martha Murphy left an indelible mark on Abilene’s educational history.
She was an accomplished bridge player, attaining the rank of Life Master, and serving in leadership positions with the local ACBL chapter. Martha was an artist, blessing her friends and family with portraits and drawings. Martha was a devout Christian, a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and in more recent years, St. James United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her children Webb Murphy of Abilene, and Mitchell Murphy of Fort Worth; her daughters-in-law Kristi (McMillon) Murphy of Abilene, and Elizabeth (Lyons) Murphy of Fort Worth; and her beloved grandchildren Carson Murphy, Mason Murphy, and Hudson Murphy of Abilene and Jackson Murphy and Grant Murphy of Fort Worth.
