Edith Aileen McMillan passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2017 at Windcrest Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Abilene, Texas.
Edith was born August 23, 1926 in Hamlin, Texas; the daughter of Loreta Lawrence and Jerry Graves McClaran. The family moved to Winters, Texas where Edith attended Winters High School. In high school she was a cheerleader and a member of the “Gold Diggers Club”. In Winters, on a blind date, she met Wilburn “Bo” McMillan. It was love at first sight, and they were married 6 months later on May 30, 1946. In 1950, the couple moved to Abilene, Texas where Bo worked as a photographer. After her children were in school, Edith entered the business world working for Senter Real Estate and Insurance of Abilene. In 1965, Bo bought Rodden’s Studio and in 1971 Edith left the insurance world to work with Bo to create a successful photography business. They worked together at Rodden’s Studio until they retired in 1980. They then moved to Cisco, Texas where they bought a farm and raised bountiful crops of vegetables which they joyfully shared with friends and family. Edith and Bo were married for 57 blissful years.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Bo McMillan in 2003, a son James Wilburn McMillan, her granddaughter Jennifer Joi Cole, a sister Jerrye Stoute, and brother John McClaran.
She is survived by her daughters Marylyn Caraway and husband Don of Round Rock, TX; Martha Stewart and husband Mark of Angel Fire, NM; brother Ret. Col. Jack McClaran and wife Corinne of Austin, TX; grandsons Jeff Cole and wife Leslie of League City, TX; Caleb Stewart of Lakewood, CO; Hunter Stewart of Angel Fire, NM; and great grandsons John and Luke Gump of League City, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held in North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street, Abilene, on Monday evening 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services for Edith will be held in Woodlawn Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 3rd at 10:30 am. with Larry Fitzgerald and grandson, Jeff Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of North’s Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Caleb and Hunter Stewart, great grandsons John and Luke Gump, great nephews Rick Copeland, Brad and Ryan Beam.
