Obituary for Vada Mae Mitchell

Vada Mae (Moore) Mitchell, age 77, passed away at home with family by her side on November 4, 2017 in Abilene, Texas after suffering a devastating stroke last April.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held in North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street, Abilene on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. As per Vada’s wishes there will be no viewing prior to cremation.

Vada was born July 25, 1940 in Colorado City, Texas to Jim and Mae Moore. She spent her school years in Colorado City, where she met and married her Jr. High School sweetheart, Joe D. Mitchell. Joe and Vada were married on August 6, 1957 in Colorado City.

After working in the accounting field for many years, she retired in 2002 from Abilene ISD’s Accounts Payable department. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Meme), and great grandmother.
Vada was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Joe D. Mitchell of Abilene, brother, Jimmy Moore and wife, Brenda, of Colorado City, sons, Leslie Mitchell and wife, Mounia, of Abilene, Wade Mitchell and wife, Mary, of San Angelo, and daughter, Teresa Brandt and husband, Wayne, of Midland. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Melanie Mitchell of San Angelo, Joe Mitchell, Icie Mitchell, Johara Mitchell, and Adam Mitchell all of Abilene, Cadence Brandt, Randen Brandt, and Hayden Brandt all of Midland; as well as great grandchildren: Evelyn Mitchell of Carrollton, Daxton Miller of Midland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed, but her loved ones rest in the knowledge that they will be reunited some day.
