Obituary for Don Alan Sandee Sr.

Don Alan  Sandee Sr.
Don Alan Sandee, Sr. 70, of Hawley, Texas passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, with his family and friends at his bedside. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St., with Pastor Cody Dykes officiating. Burial to follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Don was born November 4, 1947 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Miles Abraham and Carol Jean (Hoftiezer) Sandee. He graduated high school in 1965 and joined the United States Air Force were he proudly served for twenty years and retired as a Disabled Vietnam Veteran. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Milks and shared Fifty wonderful years together. Traveling was Don’s passion. Latch hook rugs, fishing and hunting were his hobbies. His three sons were his pride.

Don was a little league Coach, Scout Master for the BSA twelve years between Michigan and Texas. After retirement he gave over eleven thousand five hundred hours as a Hendrick Medical Center Volunteer over the span of twenty years. He served as volunteer Chaplain at the French Robertson Prison. He was very involved in Kairos and Big County Emmaus. He played in the Hawley Gospel Band. He was a T.O.P.S. member for eighteen years and received many awards. He was a past Post Commander of the VFW 6879, Abilene. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rotan.

He was preceded in death by his parents. One sister, Vivian Gantner and three brothers, Peter, Roy and Ken.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth A. Sandee. Three sons, Rick Alan and wife Susan of Abilene, Timothy Don and wife Sabra of South Carolina and Don Alan, Jr. and wife Carmella of Prosper, Texas. Seven grandchildren, Lora, Chase, Sean, Abrianna, Braiden, Christopher, Simon and great granddaughter Tara. One brother, James Sandee and wife Judy.
