David Gary Womack72, of Abilene, Texas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Monday, January 14, 2019 in North’s Memorial Chapel with Reverend Paul Matta officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, January13th from 2:00-4:00 in North’s Memorial Chapel.

David was born October 23, 1946 in Big Spring, Texas to Billy Frank Womack and Virginia Ruth Douglass. He was raised in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School in 1965 before attending Texas Tech University and graduating with an accounting degree. David married Marsha Ann True and they raised their family in Dallas, Texas. David was a certified public accountant. In his early career, he worked for Greyhound Bus Company and World Gift Company. Following this, he spent many years at Henry S. Miller before starting his own accounting and consulting firm.

David was a loyal friend to many. Once he established a friendship, he was a friend for life. David relocated to Abilene and found his happy place at Lake Fort Phantom. He loved spending his days at the lake in the company of his beloved partner, Connie Hooper. David loved playing cards, dominoes, horse shoes, and anything else he could find to challenge his friends and family. He adored his role as “Papa” and took great delight in watching his grandchildren grow up. David was an active supporter of the Abilene Center for Contemporary Arts and loved to stay involved with his Cooper High classmates.

David was preceded in death by his father, Billy Frank Womack.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia Womack Taylor, and life partner, Connie Hooper. David is also survived by his three children, one son, David Christopher Womack and wife Emily of Frisco; Daughter, Jill Womack Gilbert and husband Michael of Houston. Daughter Ann Catherine Northington and husband Ben of Dallas. David is also survived by his three younger brothers: William Douglass Womack and wife Marijon of Houston, Donald Wayne Womack and wife Debra of White Bear Lake, MN, and Daniel Ray Womack and wife Cathy of Conroe David leaves behind five grandchildren: Chloe Jane Drummond, Andrew Douglass Gilbert, Adam Michael Gilbert, Hunter True Gilbert, and Caroline Grace Northington along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by those that knew him and loved him.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Abilene Center for Contemporary Arts at 220 Cypress St. Abilene, TX 79601.

Dear Connie, you are a very special friend to me. We've spent many memoriable times together. I didn't know David very well but he was your love. So he had to be special too.
