Obituary

Jackie Morris Warmsley of Abilene passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 11:00 am at North’s Memorial Chapel.
Jackie was born July 16, 1926 in Abilene, TX to Alberta and Don Heath Morris. Jackie was a very strong and loving woman. She never met a person she couldn't love. Jackie was a graduate of Abilene Christian University, majoring in Art and Social Work. She was very active in her community as an artist and sculpture---she even taught her husband how to be an artist through the mail. In addition, Jackie worked as a state police officer, Social worker, school teacher, and worked at the Christian Service Center for 10 years. She assisted in getting the Teen Community Boys Home started and was also the founder of Hope Haven.
Jackie was preceded in death by both of her parents. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Landon Ray Warmsley, her three sons: James Lawson of Boston, Massachusetts, Don Thomas Lawson of Trabuco Canyon, California and Dr. Robert Lee Lawson of Abilene, Texas; brother Thomas Asbury Morris of Abilene, sister Patsy Morris of Schneider, Louisiana; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

Dear Lawson Family,
Our family lived across the street from Jackie and her family for 9 years on E.N. 20th in Abilene. Don and I are the same age and went to school together from kindergarten through college. Don, Jimmy and Bobby were almost like brothers to me. Jackie was always looking out for all the kids in the neighborhood and I was always welcomed by her into her home. She was a "fun" mom and a talented artist willing to help us kids with any type of handcraft projects. Jackie was also a "Den mother" for our Cub Scout troop. I spent more time playing with her kids in their yard than my own. They had a basketball goal, a livestock watering tank that served as our neighborhood pool, giant wire spools that we learned to walk on, a play house/storage shed, a great dog named Bouncer, and the best grass in the front yard where we all played football. Our neighborhood was like a Norman Rockwell painting with loving families, friendly kids, great dogs, fathers who played with their kids, a real sense of community - and Jackie was a big part of that. I regret that I will be unable to attend her memorial services.
My heart goes out to everyone who will miss her smile and cheery attitude.
