Billy J. Vann, age 94 of Hawley went home to the Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2021. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9 from 6pm to 8pm at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street, Abilene. Funeral services will be will held at 1pm on Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Fenwick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hawley Cemetery.
Billy was born on May 28, 1926, south of Hico in Hamilton County. He moved to Eastland County when he was1 year old and attended school at Carbon. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving two tours in Germany and a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He retired on August 31,1969 after nearly 22 years in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked for the State Department of Highway and
Transportation for 19 years and retiring from there on April 30,1989. He married Amy Mae Threet on March 30, 1948 in Cisco. He was a former member and Deacon of North Park Baptist Church.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Amy; son, Donald and his brother Robert.
He is survived by his sons, Calvin and wife Jennifer of Abilene and John and wife Jeanie of Hawley; brother Richard of Ranger; sisters, Ruby Whitehead, Johnnie Chancellor, Mary Louise, and Rena Mae Berkly; grandchildren, Mia, Dillon, Andrew and Glen; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
