Obituary

On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Bette June Brewer Pitcock, loving mother of five and grandmother to many, passed away at the age of 92, in Jourdanton, Texas.

Bette was born on July 16, 1928, in Abilene, to Finis Eugene Brewer and Leo White Brewer. She was a 1945 graduate of Abilene High School where she was active in the Spanish Club. She married Howard Lee Holt in 1945 and they had two sons, Dennis Howard Holt and Gary Lynn Holt. After divorce, Bette married Wayne Pitcock on November 25, 1953 and they had three children, Randall Wayne, Rhonda Layne and Lisa Kay Pitcock.

Bette June was a bookkeeper at U. S Time Corp. (Timex) and remained a bookkeeper for many friends and small business owners much of her life. She would rather be working or volunteering than being idle. Bette and Wayne were very involved in their children's school activities in Abilene and Strawn. They attended ball games and were enthusiastic booster parents She even had Greyhound Bus line donate signs to Strawn HS Athletics.

The first grandchild was born in 1968. Bette filled the role completely and became "Nanny". She was a grandmother to thirteen grandchildren who adored their Nanny. They have added 27great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She and PawPaw were always there to support their grandkids at ball games, cheering events, theater musicals, dance recitals or just to stay with a sick little one. She had the longest hugs and sweetest kisses for them all. A grandson says, "Her banana pudding was as legendary as her laugh". Another says, "They were 'Nanny and Pawpaw' to all of my friends and coaches, Her distinct voice and laugh could be heard from anywhere on the field" and "She was busier working, socializing, walking and exercising in her 80's than most of us are in our 30's". Another granddaughter says, "She was a constant source of love, laughter, happiness and comfort my whole life. I'm grateful for feeling the magic of Nanny and PawPaw's house and that my children were able to feel that magic as well."

Bette June was an active member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Abilene where she served many leadership roles as well as President of the City Council of the Abilene chapters. She was also an active member and officer of American Business Women of America (ABWA), Orenegra Chapter. She coordinated the Christmas in November fundraiser event for several years. Bette June was also an active member of North Park Baptist Church. She was an organizer, leader and one who could be depended upon to get the job done. She finally retired from her job as the “Inn Keeper” at Hendrick League House just before her 90th birthday.

Bette June was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, her son Gary Lynn Holt and her daughter in law Linda Kay Wistl Holt. Also her four siblings, Billy Howard Brewer, Frances Marie Barton, Barbara Yvonne Fraser, Gwendolyn Louise Fincher whom she remained close to throughout their lives. She has many beloved nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Bette June at the Brewer family reunions.

Bette is survived by her children, Dennis Holt of Abilene, Randall Pitcock & Sutton of College Station, Rhonda Lawson & Ronnie of Jourdanton, Lisa Cathey of Dripping Springs, daughter-in -law, Debby Frost Holt of Grapevine, many grandchildren, and one sister, Norma Madeline Murphy of Granbury.

Memorial donations may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Tx, 79605 or www.westtexasrehab.org, or North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Avenue, Abilene, Tx.

Graveside services will be held at Abilene Municipal Cemetery Saturday February 27, 2021 at 11am with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange, Abilene, Texas.
