Judy Marie Odom left this life and joined the heavenly chorus on March 20, 2021. Judy was born on June 15th, 1947, in Virginia, Minnesota, as the first child of Ruth and Roy Amundson. She grew up in the rural community of Forbes, Minnesota, where she began her formal education. She attended Cherry High School in Iron, MN; where she was the class valedictorian. She went on to receive her AA degree from York College in York, Nebraska, before transferring to Abilene Christian for her Bachelor’s degree and later for a Master’s degree.
Judy worked as a dietician at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene for a year after she finished her education. She also met her husband, David Odom, in Abilene, and they married in the summer of 1971. She taught home economics at Baird IDS for several years before having two sons, Jay and Frank. She continued to work in education in various capacities at Abilene ISD, working as a diagnostician during the majority of that time. During most of her adult life, she was also working as an Avon Lady.
Judy was a very active member of the Church of Christ, being a member of several congregations over the years in Abilene—as she lived in various neighborhoods during her adult life. She was most recently a member of the Church of Christ at Remington Ridge.
Judy enjoyed singing with the Chorus Abilene, and she enjoyed traveling with them to Europe.
Judy loved animals—especially cats.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David Odom. Judy is survived by her sons: Jay Odom, Frank Odom and his wife Shannon; grandchildren: Skyla Odom, Layla Odom, Allen Meza, all of Abilene; brothers: Dan (Jill) Amundson, of Loveland, OH; Mark Klun of Hopkins, MN; Roger (Tina) Amundson of Clearwater, FL.; stepmother: Rose Amundson, of Hopkins, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and two sweet but ornery cats, BeyBey and Kelli.
